At Altequip, we call the Socage 54TJJ the penthouse. When you see it in action, you’ll know why. When at full stretch, the basket soars up into the air above you – it’s impressive to see. More impressive, though, are the features and functionality of this truck-mounted EWP.
It combines an immense load capacity with exceptional working height and outreach. Advanced safety features and a focus on usability and mobility make this a practical consideration for any company regularly working at high heights.
Key Specifications and Features of the Socage 54TJJ
Today, we’re going to break down the core specifications of the Socage 54TJJ for you. This is one of the most capable machines on the Australian market – we think you’ll agree when you see what it offers. Let’s start with its incredible reach.
Height and Outreach
The maximum working height the basket can extend to is 54 metres. Horizontal outreach is 40 metres – these metrics firmly place this machine in the high-reach segment of truck-mounted EWPs.
It’s height ability places this machine in the radar of companies performing tall building maintenance, utilities infrastructure, telecommunications and large-scale civil works. In jobs where both horizontal and vertical are important, this machine will tick the necessary boxes really well.
Load Capacity and Operator Space
A 600 kg basket capacity is generous for this class- it will support up to six people with tools and materials. This is handy for crew-based work on installation or maintenance tasks requiring multiple operators at height.
Made of aluminium, the basket measures 2300 mm long by 900 mm wide and 1100 mm high. It also hydraulically extends out to 3600 mm for additional workspace. Extendable basket workspace improves access to work surfaces and reduces the need to reposition for adjacent work points.
The basket can rotate 180° – 90° to the left and 90° to the right. The aerial section also rotates by 700°. This means operators can work across wide arcs without going through major repositioning. If it’s a complex job in unfavourable conditions, this feature really stands out.
Controls
A 7-inch LCD screen at the operator station comes as standard on all 54TJJs. This display provides real-time information, including the 2D work area envelope, stabiliser status and limiter data. Controls use joysticks designed by Socage with integrated machine status feedback. The controls are intuitive and empowering for the operator.
What about the ground controls? These are remotely controlled by radio controller, allowing team members on the ground to perform functions from a position where they have a good view of the EWP and the basket.

Safety and Monitoring
As with all Socage EWPs, safety is a key focus. The 54TJJ includes a suite of safety devices designed for high-risk work at significant heights. These include:
Load limiter: A sensor measuring the weight in the load basket, ensuring it doesn’t exceed the 600kg basket limit.
Moment limiter: Prevents the platform from exceeding safe limits of operation while it’s being used. These are determined by the basket load and the boom extension length and angle and help prevent unsafe positioning.
Anemometer: Measures wind speed to warn the operator of unsafe conditions.
Integrated display screen: The digital display we mentioned above makes important safety information readily accessible by the operator.
Cross-check sensors: Located on the open stabilisers, these ensure that the system is correctly deployed before full work functions are allowed.
Emergency descent: an electric pump allows for descent if the main motor fails.
Multi-zone stabilisation system: This allows the operator to select from different stabilisation options. We’re going to take a close look at this important feature below.
Stabilisation System
The multi-zone stabilisation system is a standout feature. It lets operators choose different stabilisation configurations based on how much space they have and ground conditions. The two hydraulic extensions on the rear cross members significantly increase the stabilisation footprint. This improves safety as well as permitted load limits in partially stabilised positions.
The outrigger arrangement is industry common for truck-mounted platforms of this class. It balances rigidity and flexibility. Operators can deploy supports quickly, and the system automatically levels the aerial assembly once stabilisers are in place.
The multi-zone stabilisation system and hydraulic extensions are swift to deploy. This all adds up to a more efficient workflow, allowing your team to complete more work in an allocated time.

Power
The standard power used in the 54TJJ is hydraulic. There’s a heat exchanger on the hydraulic circuit to maintain operating temperature in heavy use. Auxiliary power take-off (PTO) features an automatic cut-off to protect the truck engine and hydraulic system.
A useful addition is 230V / 400V electrical sockets provided in the platform for power tools and equipment.
Optional Winch
The 54TJJ can be fitted with a hydraulic winch mounted on the boom. Winch capacity options are 900 kg or 1500 kg. When the aluminium basket is removed, the boom with winch performs as a light crane, increasing the machine’s utility on site.
Who is the Socage 54TJJ for?
The Socage 54TJJ is built for operators who regularly work at serious height and need consistent, controlled access. It suits telecommunications contractors working on towers and rooftop infrastructure, high-rise maintenance teams handling façade, glazing and signage work, and utilities or energy contractors operating on large transmission or lighting structures.
The long outreach, high basket capacity and multi-zone stabilisation system make it well-suited to complex sites where repositioning time matters. This is a specialist platform for demanding applications, not a general-purpose access machine.
