Choosing the Right Truck Mounted EWP

Choosing the right truck-mounted EWP comes down to more than working height. Outreach, basket capacity, vehicle configuration and setup space all determine the right machine for the job.

From the compact ute-mounted ForSte 14A to the 54TJJ and 75TJJ heavy truck platforms, the Socage range provides different working envelopes for different applications. What doesn't change is the advanced Italian engineering and the exceptional reliability of these machines.

Start with where you need to reach, what you need to carry and where the EWP needs to operate.

Industry Uses of Our EWP Trucks

Our truck EWPs combine an elevated work platform and road-going vehicle into a single system. It makes moving between job sites easy - there’s no packing up of a separate EWP, you just retract the boom and the stabilisers and you’re good to go.

Whether its a compact ute-mounted machine or a large truck platform, the Socage range caters to many Australian industries. Here are some examples of the jobs our clients do.

Utilities and Infrastructure

A truck mounted elevated platform can provide access to infrastructure distributed across multiple locations. The vehicle allows crews and equipment to easily travel between worksites.

Electrical and Telecommunications

Different combinations of working height and horizontal outreach can provide access to elevated infrastructure, even if the vehicle cannot be parked directly beneath the work area.

Tree Care and Vegetation Management

Arborists are regular users of EWPs, with many companies enjoying the convenience of owning their own truck EWP. They can access taller trees and work around obstacles that are in the way.

Facilities and Property Maintenance

Truck-mounted elevated work platforms can provide access to building façades, lighting, roofing areas, signage and other elevated assets.

Local Government and Civil Works

A vehicle-mounted EWP can support inspection and maintenance programs where crews need to work at multiple locations across road, property and infrastructure networks.

Signage and Lighting

EWP trucks provide mobile elevated access for the installation, inspection and maintenance of signs, lighting and other elevated assets.

What to Consider When Buying a Truck Mounted EWP

1

Working Height

Start with the maximum height at which the basket needs to operate. Altequip's current Socage truck mounted range extends from the 13.5m ForSte 14A to the 74.5mForSte 75TJJ. However, maximum height alone doesn't determine whether a machine can reach the required working position. Outreach also needs to be taken into account.

2

Horizontal Outreach

Consider how far the basket needs to work horizontally from the vehicle. Buildings, vegetation, infrastructure or other obstacles can prevent the vehicle truck being positioned directly beneath the work area.
Horizontal outreach varies significantly within the Socage range. The ForSte 20T has 12.3m of outreach at a 35m working-height class, while the larger 54TJJ and 75TJJ provide maximum outreach up to 40m.

3

Vehicle and GVM

When looking at truck mounted EWPs, you also need to consider the vehicle carrying the platform. The Altequip range extends from the ute-mounted ForSte 14A through to platforms requiring substantially larger truck configurations.

4

Basket Capacity

What is the weight of the operators, tools and materials that need to be carried in the basket on your regular jobs? Basket capacities across Altequip's current Socage truck-mounted range extend from 230kg on the smaller models to 600kg on the ForSte 54TJJ and 75TJJ.

5

Stabilisation and Setup

Truck EWPs need space to get setup and stabilised before work commences. When comparing models, think of the setup space and ground conditions you encounter on your worksites. The size, weight and stabiliser footprint of the machine you purchase needs to align itb the type of work you do.

Truck Mounted EWP FAQs

What is a truck mounted EWP?

A truck mounted EWP is an elevated work platform installed on a road-going vehicle. The vehicle transports the platform between worksites, while the elevated platform provides access to work areas at height once the machine has been correctly positioned and stabilised.

Altequip’s current Socage range offers working heights from 13.5m with the ForSte 14A through to 74.5m with the ForSte 75TJJ.

The range also provides different horizontal outreach, basket capacities and vehicle requirements, so working height should not be considered in isolation.

Within Altequip’s current listed range, the ForSte 54TJJ and ForSte 75TJJ provide maximum horizontal outreach of up to 40m.

A truck mounted EWP integrates the elevated work platform with a road-going vehicle, making it particularly suited to work that involves travelling between locations. A spider lift is a more compact machine that uses a tracked undercarriage to move around a worksite.

Consider the required working height, horizontal outreach, basket capacity, vehicle configuration and GVM, available setup and stabilisation area, operating environment and ongoing servicing requirements.
