Find the Right EWP for Your Application

If you’re experienced in the working-at-heights industry, you’ll know not every elevated work platform is suited to the same job. They have different capabilities and come in different sizes, with varying working heights, outreach and basket capacity, among many other factors.

Altequip specialises in two key types of elevated work platform: spider lifts and truck-mounted EWPs.

Spider Lifts

Spider lifts combine elevated access with a compact tracked base. They’re useful when access to the work area, machine dimensions or ground conditions are tricky and not suited to a larger truck EWP.

Altequip supplies both Raptor spider lifts and Raptor telescopic spider lifts, with different working heights and configurations available for a range of indoor and outdoor applications.

Truck Mounted EWPs

Truck-mounted EWPs combine an elevated work platform with the mobility of a road-going vehicle.

They're very popular with businesses that need to travel regularly between worksites. With a truck-mounted EWP, you can efficiently move, position and operate your EWP across multiple locations.

We supply a range of Socage truck-mounted platforms across a range of working heights and configurations. Check them out below!

Here are a few of the reasons our customers choose us:

What to Consider When Buying an EWP

As a business owner, you know your industry inside out. You'll have a pretty good idea about what you need a new EWP for — you just need to map your needs to the machine features. Here’s what to think about.

1

Working Height

What is the maximum height your operators need to regularly reach safely? That's the working height of the job. Working height has 2m added on to account for the height of the operators. In short, it’s platform height plus 2m.

2

Horizontal Outreach

Sometimes you can’t park the EWP right at the base of the job. The operator may need to reach over obstacles like roads or trees. Horizontal outreach is an important consideration if you are likely to encounter many obstacles like this in your line of work.

3

Site Access

An EWP that can’t get close enough to the work site isn’t much use. Nobody wants to hire another EWP after buying their own. The access requirements of the types of sites you work with play a part in the machine you buy. Access widths, gates, pathways, buildings and other restrictions. For difficult-access sites, the compact dimensions and tracked mobility of a spider lift may be the way to go.

4

Mobility Between Jobs

If the machine regularly needs to travel between different worksites, a truck-mounted EWP may be a more practical solution for you. Once you’ve finished working on a job, you lower and pack the boom and outriggers away and simply move onto the next job.

5

Servicing and Long-Term Support

Maintenance, inspections, replacement parts and technical support are all part of the purchase decision, not just the initial equipment price. The support track record and capabilities of the seller need to play a part in your decision.

Tell us your required working height, outreach, access conditions and intended application and we’ll identify the Socage machine that ticks all the boxes.

Frequently Asked Questions About Buying an EWP

What type of EWP should I buy?

The right EWP depends on your required working height, horizontal outreach, site access, ground conditions, platform requirements and how the machine will move between jobs. Altequip specialises in spider lifts and truck-mounted EWPs and can help you compare machines based on your intended application.
A spider lift is a compact tracked elevated work platform that can be manoeuvred into a work area and stabilised for operation. A truck-mounted EWP is installed on a road-going vehicle, useful for operators who need to travel regularly between worksites.
Altequip offers EWPs across a range of working heights and outreach capabilities. The right option depends on the height you need to reach, required horizontal outreach and where the machine can be positioned.
